Spying operations
The powers had engaged in spying operations from the start of the Cold War. These became an important source of stolen information on each other's actions and plans for both sides, . Therefore, the two superpowers set up spy organizations. In 1947, US President Truman set up the CIA ( Central Intelligence Agency) to perform duties relating to intelligence affecting national security. In 1954, The KGB ( Committee for State Security ) was set up to gather intelligence on foreign countries. Both sides condemned each other's spying actions worsening their relations from time to time.
