Development:
In April 1949, 12 capitalist countries signed a defensive military alliance in Washington.
In 1955, West Germany was admitted to the alliance.
Warsaw Pact
Background:
The admission of West Germany into NATO in 1955 threatened the security of the communist bloc. it felt the need to have a similar arrangement of its own.
Development:
In 1955, the USSR reorganized the military forces of her satellites to from a military alliance to counteract NATO.
